Speaking the Truth

Interest in the late Selwyn Hughes remains deservedly high. Founder anddriving force behind the Crusade for World Revival and the popular dailydevotional aid Every Day with Jesus, this is a further collection of his talks, fullof that enthusiasm and straightforwardness that were the hallmark of hisapproach to explaining the Gospel to a modern world.

They range from personal decisions (The Demands of Discipleship) to familymatters (Be Kind to One Another) and often give a new insight into a familiartext or passage of scripture.

Instead of emulating those who seek to impose a complex and eruditeveneer over the words of Jesus or the prophets of old, Hughes has a knackof cutting through that which often complicates or confuses, cheerfullyexposing the simple crux of the message every time.

This second volume of his sermons also contains a bonus: a CD recording ofSelwyn preaching on The Christ of the Burning Cleansing Flame – pulpitartistry at its best.

As Philip Greenslade explains in his foreword: "Like the Welsh rugby fly-halfhe might have been, Selwyn picks up his text and sets off, darting andweaving past our mental and spiritual defences, until joyfully he groundsthe truth in our hearts."
